2020 Chevrolet Camaro vs 2020 Ford Mustang: Compare Performance Cars in EL PASO

In the automotive world, there are few rivalries more longrunning and iconic than the Chevrolet Camaro vs the Ford Mustang. When the Camaro debuted and Chevrolet project managers were asked what a "Camaro" was, they responded that it's "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs". These two American muscle cars have been rivals ever since. At Mission Chevrolet, we think the Camaro is a better choice, and this page offers some of the facts behind why we feel this way. Once you've seen why the Camaro is the right choice, check out the new Camaro models in our inventory and head in for a test drive.

Chevy Camaro vs Ford Mustang: Design

On the outside, the Chevrolet Camaro cuts a more striking figure. Its bold, muscular lines show off its classic, sporty heritage, while the Ford Mustang takes a more reserved look. Once you're inside, the 2020 Chevy Camaro has notably more interior volume than the Ford Mustang. In fact, you'll get almost ten cubic feet more passenger volume in the Chevy than in the Ford. What's more, you'll get a more comfortable experience in the Chevrolet Camaro. It comes standard with an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, while the standard 2020 Ford Mustang comes with just a four-way manually adjustable driver's seat.

Chevy Camaro vs Ford Mustang: Technology

It's not just comfort where the Chevy Camaro has the edge; in interior technology, the Chevrolet Camaro outshines the Ford Mustang. For one thing, the Camaro is available with a Head-Up Display; no such feature is available in the Mustang. In addition, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro has an available performance data and video recorder. This feature includes a windshield-mounted HD camera to record video and real-time performance data while you drive. Later, you can play the video and analyze your performance. You'll also get different driving modes with this feature! Track Mode includes not just audio and video, but also data like g force, lap times, and speed. Sport Mode is similar, but with simpler data that doesn't factor things like lap times and start/finish line into the mix. Performance Mode records your 0-60 mph time, quarter-mile speed, elapsed time, and 0-to-100-to-0 runs. Choose Touring Mode for audio and video recordings of scenic drives, or use Valet Mode to keep an eye on your Chevrolet Camaro when someone else is driving it. While the Ford Mustang has an available TrackApps feature, it's much less intricate and sophisticated than the system Chevrolet offers.

Chevy Camaro vs Ford Mustang: Engine Options

This is the chief area of conflict between the Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang. At the entry level, both of these muscle cars have turbocharged four-cylinder engines. It's true that the four-cylinder in the Mustang is more powerful on paper than the base engine in the Camaro. However, the difference isn't as drastic as it might seem, once you take weight into account. The entry-level 2020 Chevrolet Camaro weighs 801 pounds less than the entry-level 2020 Ford Mustang, meaning that its power goes a lot further. But this is just the start.

Starting at the model just above entry-level (which is more affordable than even the entry-level 2020 Mustang), the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro is available with a 3.6L V6 engine that puts out 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. Surprisingly enough, the 2020 Ford Mustang doesn't offer a V6 engine at all. It jumps directly from the turbocharged I4 engine to a V8 that generates 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Choose the V8 in the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro and you'll get very similar horsepower of 455. However, this engine also generates 455 pound-feet of torque.

At the top of the line, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 offers a 6.2L Supercharged V8 DI engine that generates a stunning 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The Mustang, by comparison, offers a 526-horsepower V8 in its 2020 Mustang Shelby® GT350 trim level. Even this engine puts out only 429 pound-feet of torque. To get close to the torque put out by the top-of-the-line Camaro, you'd have to get the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby® GT500, which has a V8 engine that generates 625 pound-feet of torque. Though this Ford V8 option does put out a little more horsepower, you'll be spending nearly $10,000 more than the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Chevy Camaro vs Ford Mustang: Safety

Both of these cars are impressively safe, receiving perfect five-star overall safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They also both offer features like Forward Collision Alert, Lane Change Alert, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. However, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro has a safety feature that the 2020 Ford Mustang lacks: Teen Driver technology. If you decide to let your teen take your Camaro out for a spin, you won't have as much to worry about. Teen Driver technology lets you customize settings in your 2020 Chevy Camaro, limiting particular features and automatically turning on available safety features. These settings are matched to a key fob that you can let your young driver use. Once they return, you can get an in-vehicle report card that lets you know just how the drive went.

Chevy Camaro vs Ford Mustang: Value

Though the rivalry still runs strong, Chevrolet simply gives you more bang for your buck. The 2020 Chevrolet Camaro has a starting MSRP that's more than $1,500 less expensive than that of the 2020 Ford Mustang, and the differences only grow from there. Of course, reading about the differences can only take you so far. We invite you to experience a new 2020 Chevrolet Camaro for yourself at Mission Chevrolet.
